in loving memory
Kurt Gordon Tassche
June 10, 1961 - November 2, 2002
It is our hope to provide a lasting memorial in Kurt's name to encourage students to obtain
journeyman and master electrician certification. Your thoughtful donation will be greatly
appreciated by a student in need.  By providing students with the financial resources to
continue his/her studies in electronics will in the end provide the community with better
trained, safety conscience, knowledgeable electricians.

Kurt, himself a Master Electrician, had a great appreciation of his mentors - their skills, life
experiences, encouragement, challenges, and insight - all contributed to the person he became.
Kurt never stopped learning, or referring the National Electric Codebook for clarifications.
Evidence of his dedication and talents will be forever present on the College Park Campus.

On November 2, 2002 he died from smoke inhalation
injuries sustained from an electrical panel explosion
and subsequent fire in the Physics Building on the
University of Maryland campus October 27, 2002.
Following the accident, the University of Maryland
received 4 serious safety citations in a Maryland
Occupational Health & Safety report. In this report, it
states that after the initial arc, Kurt was able to
successfully hit two emergency off buttons most likely
preventing further damage by the other 400 amp
breakers being tested.  His death has prompted increased
attention to safety procedures and policy on campus.
Kurt Tassche became an employee of the University of
Maryland, College Park while still an electric vo-tech
student at Bladensburg High School in 1977.
